The M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) is a lightweight, air-cooled, gas piston operated, shoulder-fired weapon that is used primarily as an alternative to heavier belt-fed squad automatic weapons. The IAR can sustain a rate of fire of 36 rounds a minute with a 600-round load. The maximum effective range of the IAR is 550 meters for individual targets and 700 meters for area targets.
